Brisson, Jules

Thanks to its grace, its look, its balance and its fragility, the bird allows a wide range of surprising research, discoveries and assemblages.

I identify myself as a native Charlevoix artist influenced by its coasts  and forests. I find my motivation in the recovery and reuse of abandoned  materials, objects, or artifacts. Their form, their provenance, or their  historical background influences me to create, to renew and breathe  new life into what had been destined to disappear and be forgotten.

I first delved into drawings and then explored painting. My attention and interest in these traditional mediums then gave way to a marked curiosity for the sculpture of wood and clay, and finally for engraving. Following these enriching explorations, it was the sculpture of iron and steel parts that satisfied my creativity. This last technique is a fair balance between  the textures of engraving, the quest for a shape of the sculpture and the  line to line of the drawing.

My volatile inspiration became an anchor in the personification of the bird. Thanks to its grace, its look, its balance and its fragility, the bird allows a wide range of surprising research, discoveries and assemblages.
